Some chairs are designed to be noticed; the Newtown is designed to be used. Its loop back is formed from steam-bent timber in one continuous curve, with an inner loop for support, over a round solid timber seat and splayed legs braced by a bent ring. It is one of the oldest cafe chair forms there is, and it has lasted because it works.
It is light enough for staff to lift onto tables at close and strong enough for daily service. The warm honey stain suits pale timber, terrazzo and tiled cafes; darker stains are available for bistros and pubs. Because it has no upholstery, it is the simplest chair in our range to keep clean.
Why it lasts. The loop back spreads load around a continuous bend instead of a single joint, which is why chairs of this pattern survive decades of cafe use. Glides are replaceable, and a loose joint can be re-glued by any furniture repairer. Order a few spares with your fitout: matching stain from the same production run is much easier than matching it a year later.
